oh happy day

oh happy day

1. Days off are NICE! I initially opened my eyes around 7:30, but rolled over to try and go back to sleep. I managed to get another hour in before the bird started squawking, so still…that was good.

2. I’m impressed with the people on my street from last night. Either they didn’t shoot off as many fireworks as they usually do (and I’m leaning towards this one since I didn’t hear more than a few single ones…unless I fell asleep really hard really fast) or they actually cleaned up the whole mess. Either way, I’m impressed.

3. Went to the gym and did my final day of Week 1 in C25K. It wasn’t that bad actually. My body wasn’t thrilled with the first running interval, but I made it. There was a guy who works for the gym and does group training who was offering advice if anyone wanted it since he didn’t have a group at the time. I asked him about arms – what to do with them. I know you don’t want them up too high or your heart has to work extra hard to pump the blood. But also you don’t want them too low. His advice was to think of them “like tiny little t-rex arms” – they’re just kind of there at about waist height, but not really doing THAT much. It made me laugh, and actually it did help.

4. Got new headphones for the iPod. I’d had these ear bud things that honestly I’m not sure where I got. They were “doing” but I didn’t really like them. My ears are just not the right size or shape for ear buds – at least not the “stand alone” kind. The new ones I got are buds, but they’re buds with the over-ear holder. MUCH better! I didn’t spend the sweaty parts of my run fighting with the buds. Much improved!!

5. Did Yoga Meltdown this afternoon. I love that workout!! Right now I’m sticking with Level 1, but I may gradually start mixing Level 2 in on occasion. I did manage to do all my Rolling Ts AND hold the last one for Jillian’s 15 seconds (I’m convinced her timekeeping is different to anyone else’s) on both sides, so that was an improvement! I was shaking like crazy and on the verge of collapsing into a heap at the end of each, but I maintained! Woohoo!!!

6. Summer School starts tomorrow. Yay! Seriously, it should be fun. We have swimming on Mondays and Garden on Thursdays. Three weeks we have Arts in the Park on Tuesday. And I’ve requested two Wednesday field trips – we’ll see if those get to happen. But really the 6 weeks tend to go pretty quickly.

7. Starting to feel sleepy, so I’m thinking a shower and bed will be in order very shortly. It’ll be an early morning!

It’s Monday…

It’s Monday…

1. School was school. We had our faculty conference today (it’s usually the 2nd Monday of the month). NABD. We talked goals for next year and got our preference sheets. Summer School was briefly discussed, and Ms. New AP included me in the ones who work it, so that’s a good sign. I mean, I’ve got retention rights, so it shouldn’t be an issue, but you never know. I’m putting 1st-2nd as my first choice, 2nd-3rd as my second and 3rd-4th as my third. We’ll see. So far the age/grade preference hasn’t really worked out for me, but it’s worth a shot. I did get a little annoyed that my para started whining about how with the little guys we sometimes have to do potty training. Frankly, I’d rather deal with that than puberty. Plus the kidlets at our site are going to be skewing younger, so. Fingers crossed. And frankly? The preference should be up to the teacher. If that means the teacher-para team gets split, so be it.

2. The houseguest thing is reminding me why I’m much happier – if poorer – without a roommate. I miss having my space – all my space. In October it was one thing because he was never here – always out at NYMF things. But now? I leave and he’s sleeping, I come in and he’s sleeping. ABSURD!!!! Also? It’s the assumption thing. Not cool. Ah well…it will get resolved soon I hope.

3. Theatre for the weekend was – 1 I can do without, 2 excellent, and 1 I’m not sure about. Friday night was Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play. Um…it was long. Three and a half hours long to be exact. On folding chairs with very tiny pillows. It had some good points – especially at the first (yes, first) intermission where we got wine and half-bagels. But overall? Not a fan. I do not get why there was a running theme of fish throughout. It fit in Act 1. Did not fit in Act 2. And was only obliquely linked to location (Spearfish, SD) in Act 3. I don’t mind Ruhl’s straightforward stuff a la In The Next Room or even her revisiting of Greek tragedies a la Eurydice. But her symbolic stuff? I don’t get it. It did give me a comeback for playwriting when I take it again if symbolism comes up in critique. Symbolism is all well and good, but your audience has to get it. If they don’t, it just comes off as pretentious. Saturday was Sondheim on Sondheim – which was great. Barbara Cook singing “Send In The Clowns” was perfection. I only wish they’d given Norm Lewis “Epiphany” rather than Tom Wopat. Also Saturday was Everyday Rapture which has moved to Broadway thanks to Roundabout (and Megan Mullally for dropping out of a play at the last minute). It’s still amazing! I relate way too much to that show – though not always in obvious ways. And then yesterday was The Metal Children. Honestly I’m not sure what to think of that yet. It’s very dark. And I’m not really sure what the ending has to do with the rest of it. I can appreciate the art of the writing. And I can appreciate much of the acting. I’m just not sure how I feel about it overall yet.

4. I am loving Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown. Well, mostly. I am NOT loving the “rolling Ts” (it’s a side plank, then you roll through a plank to the opposite side plank and then back again – and it’s as hard as it sounds), but I’m getting better at them. 🙂

5. I have discovered the biggest benefit of having done the 30 Day Shred – at least for me. It goes beyond the weight I lost and the reshaping I’ve done. Basically? It got me in the habit of working out every day. And I can tell when I’m not able to or may not be able to. I get edgy and grumpy. Which ultimately I think will turn out to be a good thing. I will just need to learn how to occasionally work in something that may not be a dvd based on schedule. But ultimately I’m happy with this!

6. Gah decisions!! I definitely want to go to Lilith Fair this year!! Tickets for the NYC one (ok, so it’s in NJ, but it’s referred to as NYC) go on sale Saturday – payday!! I did apply to volunteer at the festival – talking about environmental things – but from that we won’t hear about that until like 2 weeks ahead of time. By which point I’m sure it’ll be sold out. So I don’t know if I should just buy a general festival pass (what we’d get anyway) and let that be it, then try and sell that if I’m chosen to volunteer or what. *headdesk* I hate decisions like this!!!

7. Debating getting a plane ticket down to NC for the reunion. I’ll have to look at the budget with this paycheck and decide if it’s even worth it. It’s closer to fly into Greensboro, but not necessarily cheaper. Charlotte, which is generally cheaper and provides more options, is further away. And I can’t leave until after school, so Greensboro is really the better option. We shall see.

8. Ok…time to dry my hair a little, then do some reading (the one problem with getting library books on my nook is a lot are coming off my waiting list, and I’ve only got 21 days to read them!!), and then go to bed.

Hi weekend!

Hi weekend!

1. Watch this!!!

In case you missed it in the political sexy of the attempted bombing or the ecological sexy of the oil spill, Nashville had a 500-year flood last weekend. The damage is in the billions. 😦

2. Survived yesterday at school. It was fine. Turns out the person who was supposed to sub for me on Thursday called earlier in the week to say she wasn’t going to be able to, but no one told me, so our secretary ended up having to call someone in. She apparently was bitchy about it, but my para said “Did you TELL Beth?” which shut her up because she realized she hadn’t. It all worked out though.

3. I LOVE Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown!! It is intense and awesome!!! And I’m only on Level 1.

4. Saw Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play last night. Um…I’m ok with her straightforward stuff a la In The Next Room or The Vibrator Play or even her reworking of Greek tragedies a lo Eurydice. Those are fine. This – where she was trying to be all symbolic – I don’t get. I’m all for symbolism, but your audience has to get it. There was this recurring fish thing going on, and it only made sense in the first act. Also? It was 3 and a half hours – and felt interminably longer (though part of that could be because we were sitting on stupid folding chairs with very little padding). A good 15-20 minutes could have been chopped from each act and it would have been fine. The best part was at the first intermission when they passed out little dixie cups of wine and bagels.

5. Today it’s Sondheim on Sondheim and Everyday Rapture. Woohoo!!

6. Ok…I need to eat my Luna bar for lunch and then get ready to hit Manhattan! Yay!

Mental Health Days Are AMAHZING!!!

Mental Health Days Are AMAHZING!!!

1. Finished the 30 Day Shred yesterday!! ALL 30 DAYS!!! I’ll definitely keep it in my workout repertoire. It’s great!!! Weight loss for the 30 days? 12.5 pounds!! 🙂

2. Took today as “self treat for personal business”. That business was getting a hair cut – for free! – but really? Since it’s “personal business” it doesn’t matter! Personal business CAN be taking care of yourself, and I needed a day off. And the principal approved it, so YAY!

3. Not the greatest experience I’ve had with Bumble and Bumble Model Project in terms of the stylist. This wasn’t their first time doing the razor bob with this class, but you’d have thought it was as uncertain as my stylist was. Still, it looks ok. Not the fantastic look I usually come away with, but that’s also partly because they don’t allow them to use brushes even when blowing you out at the end with the cuts. They do style you when you do the color classes. I have to go back for another model call for color because they don’t do the color class I had been doing. The next one is May 24. So woo. (Btw, if anyone wants to do it, be a cut model (once you’re a cut model and have been to one appointment you can go for a color call), you can go to the model call on 5/24 from 5:30-6:15pm, and then give them my name when you go for your first service – really this is the first time I’ve had a slightly negative experience)

4. Started Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown today. HARD!!!! But amazing!! I love it!!

5. My dad sent me a link to this article about Nashville. Yeah, remember that? There was a 500-year FLOOD there over the weekend!!! But you may not have heard about it since it’s barely registered on the national news. Damage is going to be in the BILLIONS!! But it’s Nashville. People pulled together to help each other out. There wasn’t looting and violence. And… Well, the rest of my points are in the link. READ IT!

6. Speaking of Nashville, big time kudos to the touring company of A Chorus Line which is playing TPAC now. Daddy said that last night after curtain call, when they made their BC/EFA speech, the guy doing it announced that they have talked with tptb at BC/EFA, and while the money first has to come to headquarters in NY, ALL of the money they collect while in Nashville will GO BACK TO NASHVILLE for flood relief. LOVE!!!!!

7. I despise Russell. End of story.

8. And now it’s time to get ready for bed! Night everyone!!
